- Your 6 – 13 year old is struggling with a specific issue, and you see it listed on the Descriptions of Life-Skill Intensives page
- You want your child involved in learning to manage the problem more effectively
- You like the idea of a time-limited, educational approach to acquiring new skills
Life-Skill Intensives are mini-courses designed for 6 – 13 year olds and their parents. Each is composed of five 50-minute modules. The first and last are for parent(s) only, to set you up for success and maximize your ability to sustain gains. In between are three joint modules (parent and child together) where you will learn new ways to think about and respond to the issue at hand.
I offer five Life-Skill Intensives: Super Sleepers, Temper Tamers, Bendy Brains, Worry Less and Grateful Head
Life-Skill Intensives are not therapy. We will not shift our focus to talk about what happened that day, or a big event on the horizon. Instead, these are “classes” with specific goals, teaching-points, and activities presented in ways that are interesting and fun. You and your child will be given hand-outs summarizing the material we have covered, and practice activities to do at home.
You can do more than one Life-Skill Intensive, and you can repeat the same Intensive, but we cannot shift from Life-Skill Intensives to therapy (or visa versa). If, over the course of a Life-Skill Intensive, it becomes clear that therapy is needed, I will do my best to refer you out.
You can take part in a Life-Skill Intensive if your child is in therapy elsewhere, as long as your child’s therapist signs the Therapist Awareness Form.
If you would like further support to implement the strategies you have learned in a Life-Skill Intensive, you can shift to Parent Coaching.
Please download the Life-Skill Intensives Service Agreement for additional details including fees for Life-Skill Intensives.
Need Help Deciding?
Parent Coaching will always be available, whether or not you have taken part in therapy with your child, or done a Life-Skill Intensive. If, however, your child takes part in a Life-Skill Intensive, we cannot shift to therapy, nor can we go in the other direction, from therapy to a Life-Skill Intensive.
